A Message from Joy Chen, Managing Principal
Our clients are leaders intently focused on the future,
and on ensuring that they have the team they need to succeed. Often, they
face multiple challenges and need to make a change in management as well
as in the culture of the organization. Sometimes, they have a lingering
suspicion that they could be doing more, if only they had the right people
in place. Each time we start a search, we help our client think through
the future of their business and the talent they need to get there. We
assess their current culture and the skills of their current team. Then
we construct a profile of all the hard and soft skills required in successful
candidate.
Social media have transformed the way we are able to conduct searches, allowing us to shift our efforts away from “knowledge” to “skills.” The time we formerly spent tracking down candidates and building databases can now be devoted to understanding our client's growth goals and culture in order to find precisely the right person to help achieve those goals.
The Internet is also forcing transparency into the client relationship itself. In working with the world's leading search firms, my partners and I began to see that charging all the fees up front leads to a disconnect between the interests of the search firm's clients and those of its shareholders. As a result, the industry completes on average only 60% of their searches, and search firms do not return fees for uncompleted searches.
We've designed our firm and all our processes to help our clients succeed. We work with clients who are leaders, future-focused and growth-oriented. They're people we like and respect, because each search is a process, and we want to enjoy the people we work with. We accept only those assignments we feel confident we can complete. Then we dedicate the resources to complete every one. And we back up our pledge with a pay-for-performance business model.
